WHAT I LEARNED BY JOURNALING FOR 5 MONTHS
Ever since I got interested in self-development some 1 year ago, I have heard a lot of people talking about benefits of journaling every day that how it helped them becoming a better version of themselves, reducing anxiety etc. etc. so I thought why not give it a shot.
I couldn’t help but being completely honest that it was complete bullshit & it was until it wasn’t (read that sentence again).
There are different types of journals like bullet journal, gratitude journal, habit tracking journal. The key is to track your process and have a bird’s eye view of your life.
I wrote my first page of journal on 7th November 2020
Ever since I journal everyday (99% of the times) and it helped me in many ways –
· I stopped running away from my own thoughts. I write in my journal about everything leaving nothing behind it gives me mental clarity and self-reflection.
· I started feeling less angry and anxious. It really helped me to deal with my anger issues.
“Constantly down the list of those who felt intense anger at something: the most famous, the most hated, the most whatever,” Marcus Aurelius wrote. “And ask: Where is all that now? Smoke, dust, legend…or not even legend.” We all carry around destructive thoughts. About the things that went wrong. The people who hurt us. The mistakes we’re embarrassed about. The promises we made and then broke, or that were made to us and then broken by someone else. The love interest who had no interest. The business partner who screwed us over. It all adds up. It builds and builds, burning us up inside. Don’t turn into smoke, dust, or legend, like so many people in history. Burn it out of yourself and onto the pages of journal.
· It helped me to track m process in every aspect of life professional as well as personal.
RULES FOR JOURNAL
Forgot all the rules about journaling. Do what works. Personally speaking I kept 3 journals for daily journaling, for brainstorming and for professional and finance related. And I don’t own some kind of fancy journal if you are thinking these are just normal journal out of which 1 I assembled myself. They key is to write and a normal diary/journal will do same work as those fancy 10$ journals.
CONSISTENCY IS THE KEY- write daily don’t break the streak.
FINAL THOUGHTS-
So the moment of truth, if you’re not doing it, please start! Whatever form you find is most conducive for you is the one to do it in. Some like to write or jot notes down on paper. Some like to pull up an empty document on their computer and record thoughts. But it is the process that counts.
And its value compounds over time. One cannot expect wisdom and self-mastery to simply arrive via epiphany. No, those states are acquired, little by little, practice by practice. The sooner you start, the better.
